What is the Campaign for the Community?

The Campaign for the Community is our annual, community wide fundraiser and the single largest way our area invests in itself. Each fall, community members and businesses across the Bemidji area come together to raise the funds that power United Way's work all year long.

99% stays local

United Way of Bemidji Area is a local 501(c)(3) nonprofit. 99 cents of every dollar raised here stays right here, decided on by local volunteers and granted back out to local programs. The remaining one percent supports United Way Worldwide, which audits local United Ways like ours, connects us to ideas and programs from across the country, and powers national partnerships we all rely on, including 211, Ride United, and ALICE.

Raised in 2025, exceeding our goal. Over the past decade, the Campaign for the Community has doubled in dollars raised, a credit to the businesses, donors, and volunteers who show up for their neighbors year after year.

Where your gift goes

When the campaign closes, a volunteer team of community members reviews applications and allocates funding to local programs through a grant process. That funding strengthens work across four areas: a healthy community, youth opportunity, financial security, and community resiliency.

A growing focus: ALICE

A growing focus of this campaign is ALICE: Asset Limited, Income Constrained, Employed. These are neighbors who work, often more than one job, and still come up short when a car repair or a medical bill hits. As more of our partner programs expand to serve ALICE, more of what you give reaches these working households.
