Who We Are

Mission: "Through prevention strategies, HIP strives to reduce the use of alcohol, tobacco, and other drugs by youth in Hubbard County."

Vision:  "A united community where children prosper and grow into healthy adults."

History:  Hubbard in Prevention coalition was established in 2011 following the award of the Project and Implementation grant in partnership with CHI St. Joseph’s Health. This grant was a five year grant and ended in June of 2016. In September 2016 it was announced that the Drug Free Communities grant was awarded to Hubbard in Prevention. The primary focus is the prevention of alcohol, marijuana, and prescription drug use by youth. The focus population is youth living in or attending school in Hubbard County. This includes the school districts of Park Rapids, Nevis, and Laporte.

The HIP Coalition has established and are working on 2 main goals:

  • Build community collaboration around youth chemical health
  • Reduce underage drinking, marijuana use, and prescription drug misuse

What We Do

What’s going on in HIP? The Hubbard in Prevention coalition is working towards implementing policy and environmental change in the community. Below are some ideas that the coalition are bringing to Hubbard County.

Social Host Ordinance Campaign:

  • Educate parents and adults about the Social Host Ordinance and how it can help reduce underage drinking.
  • Add Marijuana to ordinance.

Take it to the Box Campaign:

  • Educate the community on taking unused/leftover prescriptions to a local drop off site and how it can help reduce youth prescription drug use.
  • Permanent drop off site: Hubbard County Sheriff’s Office Outer Lobby, open 24/7

Open the Door Presentation:

  • This exhibit and presentation will help parents and professionals to uncover the mysteries in the lives of teens, providing tools and resources to foster safe environments, and encouraging ongoing dialogue.

Community Movie Night:

  • Offer an outdoor movie night for community members. This will create an opportunity for youth, adults, families, and other members in the community to have an activity to do that doesn’t involve risky behavior.

ACEs Initiative:

  • Increase awareness of Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACEs) among all parents, adults, organizations, businesses, schools, and community members in Hubbard County.
