United Way of Bemidji Area Advances the Common Good, creating a meaningful difference in the lives of area children, youth, aging adults and their caregivers, people in crisis and people with mental and physical disabilities by focusing on the building blocks for a good life: Education - helping children, youth and young adults achieve their full potential; Income - promoting financial stability and independence; and, Health - improving people’s health and social well-being, and strengthening basic need/crisis services.
Food shelf donations can be brought to the 401 Irvine Ave NW Post Office on Friday, May 10th.
Letter carriers will still pick up donations along their Saturday routes.
The United Way of Bemidji Area has partnered with the Minnesota Dental Association (MDA), Minnesota Dental Foundation, and the local committee to plan and support a successful Mission of Mercy (MOM) event for the Bemidji area. On June 13, 2013, the Sanford Center will be transformed into a large, temporary dental clinic to provide treatment for children and adults in need, regardless of their ability to pay. Minnesota held its inaugural MOM event in August 2012 in Mankato. The two-day event delivered $1,302,985 in patient care and treated 2,062 patients. Bemidji is fortunate to host the second Mission of Mercy event to ever be held in Minnesota. The goals of this event is to: (1) provide free dental care, especially to patients with dental infections and/or pain; (2) raise awareness of the barriers to dental care faced by low-income adults and children; and (3) challenge state policymakers and dental professionals to work together to improve the oral health of all residents, particularly those low-income patients who have been promised care by the state. DIRECTIONS:
To recognize your outstanding volunteer(s) with the Someone
Special Award, please complete the attached document for each
volunteer. You may recognize a maximum of two (2)
volunteers. RETURN THE COMPLETED FORM BY: Friday, May 31, 2013. The preferred method for completing the form is electronic format: Download a form here. Click here for a PDF version of the form. Save the downloaded form to your computer, open the form and then type in the necessary information. After the form is complete, email as an attachment to admin@unitedwaybemidji.org. Please mark the subject of your email “Someone Special Volunteer” and name the attached file with the volunteer’s first and last name (for example jennifersanford.doc). · DON’T FORGET to attach a photo of each of the volunteers you are recognizing (if available). The photo will be included in the Bemidji Pioneer article, on the United Way web site, and posted on the United Way Facebook Page. Please make sure the photo file is named with the volunteer’s first and last name (ex. jennifersanford.jpg) · You may recognize up to two volunteers to receive the Someone Special award, so you can attach two separate recognition forms to the email.
